Chesterbrook Academy News – May 2016

We leave April with showers, and enter May looking forward to those blooming flowers and warm, sunny days! April buzzed by with many exciting events kicking off with our Week of the Young Child Celebration and Spring Book Fair, followed by our Ladybug Release and Earth Day festivities, before wrapping up the month with our school’s much anticipated Middle States Accreditation Visit. Many thanks to all of our teachers and families for their support of our efforts both in and out of the classroom to provide our students and their families with rewarding opportunities. We strive to be a school of excellence and it would not be possible without the help and support of our school community.

We are in the home stretch of the 2015-2016 school year, and we have a busy 6 weeks ahead of us before we move onto our Summer Camp program, so be sure to refer to the Calendar and Upcoming Events (listed below). Mark your calendars now for our annual Spring Concert on Friday, June 3rd. (More details to follow in the weeks ahead.)

Soccer Shots is back with Coach Bass! The Spring Session began on Thursday, April 14th and will run through Thursday, June 2nd. There are still a few spaces available for students ages 3 years+. To enroll, go to SoccerShots.org/lehigh.

Calling all moms! Please join us for Muffins With Mom during morning drop-off on Friday, May 6th. Please RSVP to your child’s teachers if you plan to join your child. We realize our moms (and dads) are busy, and as such, we will have the refreshments set-up for you to help yourself during morning drop-off to spend a few moments with your child(ren) before you head out for the day.

After much time, energy and anticipation, I am pleased to inform you that our Middle States Accreditation visit was a success! The visiting team arrived on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 26th and over the course of their visit they had the opportunity to meet a few parents, observe our classrooms, interview staff and administrators, and review and validate our school’s self-study. They also validated our adherence to the Middle States 12 Standards for Accreditation, reviewed our Plan for Growth and Improvement and the quality of our self-study. Prior to the team’s departure on Thursday, April 28th, the Team Chair provided the Internal Coordinators and administrative team, represented by Pam DeNato, Daisy Anetor (Executive Director for NLCI), and myself, with an Oral Report of the team’s visit and findings. The chair offered us several recommendations for improvement and commended us on the strength of our school community, which was evident. The team will be recommending our school for re-accreditation to the Middle States Commissions and a written report of the visit will be submitted to the Commision(s) for a four-step review process before a final accreditation action is provided to our school. Accreditation is a system of accountability that ensures educational quality and it is our continued goal to provide quality Early Childhood experiences for our students, families and staff.

Lastly, during the month of May we celebrate and recognize our teachers for all that they do to support our students and school. Please join me in thanking our teachers for providing a nurturing and engaging learning environment where children can grow and learn safely and happily.

As a reminder, our school will be closed on Monday, May 30th in observance of Memorial Day.

Yours in Education,

Jenell Hilton
