February Newsletter

Slide1

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the many new families who have joined our school community since the new year!  We appreciate that you have chosen Chesterbrook Academy for your child’s early education.

By the last week of February, parents whose children have been with us since the beginning of the school year should expect to receive a parent report. This form of lead teacher communication will provide you with a detailed account of how your child is progressing in all areas of development. Assessments also assist teachers in adjusting the level of instruction to meet individual needs. Once you review your parent report, you are welcome to schedule a parent/teacher conference if you would like to discuss your child’s development further. Just speak to the teacher.  If you are new to Chesterbrook Academy, the next parent report will be sent home in May, right before the summer curriculum begins.

In honor of National Heart Awareness Month, our students at Chesterbrook Academy in Pembroke Pines will host their 6th Annual Juliana’s Lemonade/Cupcake from the Heart Stand. We host this event for our Alumni student, Juliana Duperval (Ms. Jasmin’s daughter). Juliana suffers from a congenital heart defect that requires her to visit Joe Dimaggio’s Children’s Hospital often. She just recently had her 15th surgery. Juliana and her mother have started this event to bring learning and joy to children who could not be in the classroom.

During the week of February 1st  through the 13th, we will be having an educational Toy Drive for the heart patients. Please bring in an unwrapped toy and to drop off in the front lobby. On February 13th, we will host Heart Healthy Day, in which the students & facility will wear red clothing, participate in health & fitness activities with a personal trainer, and do the Teddy Bear Clinic with the nurses & staff from Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. That day Juliana will be selling goodies at the lemonade stand in the front lobby and the money as well as the toys will be given to JDCH representative.

Can’t believe I am saying this, but Pre-K Parents, we are in the beginning stages of planning for our 2018 Pre-Kindergarten graduation ceremony and know you are anxiously waiting to hear when it will be.  The ceremony will be at Sagemont Lower School on June 7th starting at 10 a.m. sharp and ending at 11: 30 a.m.

Traditionally, graduation preparation is a joint effort between teachers, students, parents and the administration. We look forward to working closely with you and enjoying this special milestone in your child’s life.  Pre-K graduation updates will follow.

A special thank you to our Intermediate Parents, from classrooms #4 and #5.  Thank you for registering your children for the 2018/2019 VPK program. We had an overwhelming show of new families during our January Open House leaving limited space. Our Kindergarten Readiness is 98%.  The word on the street is Chesterbrook Academy is the place to be for VPK! We’re glad your children will continue to grow with us.

February will be a fun month; please continue to read below we don’t want you to miss a thing!

SICK POLICY:
The purpose of our sick policy is to reduce the spread of illness among our students and to encourage full recuperation of sick children before they return to school.  We depend on parents to assist us in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all of our children.

Children may be sent home if they have any concerning symptoms. Also, a child must be free of all of these symptoms for at least 24 hours before he/she can return to school. These symptoms include:
  •  A Fever of 100 degrees or more
  • Vomiting within the previous 24-hour period
  • Diarrhea within the previous 24-hour period
  • Symptoms of a communicable disease
  • Fussy, cranky behavior and not himself/ herself

Following an illness, a child may return to school once he/she has either been seen by a doctor or it has been determined that illness is not contagious. (A doctor’s clearance may be requested.) Please help us keep all of our children healthy by following these rules. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. Thank you for your support!
