April 2019

Spring is here!  We are so happy to have the warmer weather upon us and the extra hour of daylight to be able to enjoy it.  The birds are chirping, the crocuses are starting to bloom, and The Phillies are winning!  What a wonderful time of year!

April is a very busy month for us.  We will be celebrating The Week of the Young Child from April 8th-April 12th.  We will kick off the week with a very special guest who will join us for “Music Monday”.   One of our Infant Room moms, Lindsey Griffin, will share the joys of music with our children after she finishes her day of teaching at Butler Elementary.  Ms. Griffin will conduct two sessions for us.  The first will be for our younger children who will meet in the Beginner Room.  The second session will be for our older children who will meet in our Pre-K 2 classroom.  I have heard that there may even be some instruments available for the children to hear and even play!  Parents, you are welcome to come listen and enjoy as well.

April 9th is ” Tasty Tuesday.”  We will have a fun treat that the children can help us make.  Weather permitting, we will host our Annual Trike-a-Thon to support St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.  Please understand that you do not have to make a donation to have your child participate.  Bring your child’s trike or big wheel or scooter along with their helmet and place them in the parking lot by the younger playground with his/her name on both.   Thank you.  We use this event to help children understand about handicaps and tolerance.

April 10th is “Work Together Wednesday.”  The teachers and children will work together to clean up the garden area and plant some new flowers and vegetables for us all to enjoy later in the season.

April 11th is” Artsy Thursday.”  The children will be starting their work on a collaborative school mural to be displayed during Earth Week.

Friday, April 12th is “Family Fun Day.”  All are invited to join us for our Annual Spring Hat Day Parade to New Seasons. I hope you started creating yours!  We also are sponsoring an Alex’s Lemonade Stand before and after the parade.  While we celebrate our wonderful children during this special week, we also wanted to celebrate those who are less fortunate and do something special to help them.  We thought a nice cool drink of lemonade after our walk next door would be a perfect way to end our week.  There is no obligation to purchase, but we will have a donation box available that we will forward to the organization to help children who are suffering from childhood cancer.

The week of April 15th-April 19th will be another fun- filled week as we enjoy some holiday fun and get ready for all of the activities planned for Earth Week.

During Earth Week, we will sponsor our Annual Lady Bug Release and all of the special activities that accompany it.  We will read “The Grouchy Lady Bug,” enjoy special treats like “Ants on a Log,” learn silly songs and finger-plays, and learn more about our environment and the animals that inhabit it.

As if that wasn’t enough fun for one month, we also have our Scholastic Book Fair opening up on Monday, April 8th.  Feel free to browse and maybe even find some holiday goodies!
