From the Principal’s Office
Happy New Year! We hope everyone has a happy and healthy 2020!
We made it through the holidays and have gotten settled into our normal classroom routines. Except for a couple bouts of nasty weather, the children have been enjoying the unseasonal temperatures. It is always extremely nice to get to go out and play in the sunshine and warmer temps when you normally are dealing with snow and ice. We know it won’t last but we’ll take advantage of it while we can.
If you are not receiving photos and daily reports for your child, this can easily be changed by downloading the Links 2 Home app on your phone. Just type ‘Links 2 Home’ in the search bar for the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. After downloading Links 2 Home you can register with the same email address that you used to enroll your child in our school.
In addition to our newsletter, the ‘For Parents’ section of our website also includes links to our menu, monthly calendar and school year calendar. We update these items frequently to ensure you’re always in the know. Though we send information through Links 2 Home, our calendar can be printed or even downloaded directly to your device. Our menu and school year calendar can be printed or saved for easy reference as well. Our school website is located at Williamsburg.chesterbrookacademy.com.
Have a great month!

For Parents and Teachers
Please join us in our efforts to keep all the children and teachers healthy this winter. Remember our illness policy states a child must be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school. In the case of a fever, this means fever-free for 24 hours without the use of a fever reducer such as Tylenol or Motrin. We understand it can be hard to get time off from work to take care of a sick child but we do know school is the last place a sick child needs or wants to be. Most illnesses are viral and have to run their natural course, so we understand normal runny noses and coughs. It is when a child is exhibiting acute symptoms and is lethargic that we ask he or she stay at home to get the rest needed for a speedier recovery.
The weather has been lending itself to the children being able to go outside and play this winter. Please be sure to have your child dressed for outside play time. You are welcome to leave a hat and set of gloves/mittens in your child’s cubby so they are available when needed.
For Parents
Child care statements for 2019 are now available for tax purposes. The statement provides the total amount paid for child care and our federal tax ID number. We can print or email your statement for you. You are also able to access your statement through the parents’ portal ALMA.
We have an Open House scheduled on January 25th from 10:00 – 1:00. This is an opportunity for families who are interested in enrolling their child/children to visit the school when things aren’t as hectic in their schedule or at the school. If you know anyone who is looking for child care, please be sure to mention the Open House to them. If they enroll and let us know you recommended the school to them, you can earn a free week’s tuition.
Kindergarten registration is coming up for Unit 5 and District 87 schools. Unit 5’s kindergarten registration is scheduled for March 10th, District 87’s isn’t on their calendar yet, but it is usually in April. Parents of children who will start kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year will need to contact their individual attendance school to schedule a registration time. You will need to have a current physical, vision exam and dental exam at the time of registration. Please bring a copy of your child’s physical so we have a current physical on file.
Parents are able to access their account through the parent portal ALMA. Once logged on to ALMA, you can make one time payments or set up recurring payments, update contact information, change contacts, check your balance and access your year-end statement. You can reach the parent portal by way of the school’s website. Once on the website, click on ‘For Parents’ and then ‘My Account’. The username on the account is the firstname.lastname of the primary parent on the account. If you haven’t registered yet, you can click on forgot my password and enter the primary email on file. You will receive an email giving you instructions on how to register so you can start accessing your account. If you have any questions, please let us know.
Reminders
- Please make sure your child has a complete change of season appropriate clothes in their cubby. If we send your child home in the school’s extra clothes, please be sure to return them so they are available for the next time a child has an accident and doesn’t have their own change of clothes.
- The weather has definitely not been typical for January so far! As we all know, that can change very easily. In the case of inclement weather causing a school closing, announcements will be made on WJBC 1230am, WBWN 104.5fm and WBNQ 101.5fm radio stations and their websites. A notification will be sent through Links2Home and our website will be updated. The decision to close due to weather will be made by 6:00 a.m.
- Families can earn free tuition by referring other families for enrollment. There is no limit to the number of times you can earn a free week. Be sure the family you refer mentions your name when they tour the school.

The classrooms will have Valentine Day parties on February 14th at 3:00. The classrooms will have signup sheets posted for parents to volunteer to help with the party or to bring in treats/snacks for the party. We will reopen as normal on Tuesday, February 18th.
