From the Principal’s Office
Things are moving right along here at Chesterbrook Academy! We recently switched out a couple of classrooms and moved children to new classrooms, so everyone is getting settled into the new rooms, new teachers and new friends. We appreciate your understanding during the changes…short term inconveniences have led to long term benefits for the children.
Our next Professional Development Day is scheduled for Monday, February 17th. The school will be closed for the day, so you will need to make other arrangements for care for the day. We will be completing our trainings at the school, so if you drive by and see the teachers’ cars it doesn’t mean we are open. We appreciate your support of our continuing teacher development. We will open as normal on Tuesday morning.
Parent reports are scheduled to be distributed on March 2nd. The parent reports are a snapshot of where your child is currently on skills for his/her classroom. With the recent move up to new classrooms, there will likely be more Introduced and Developing on this Parent Report than was on their previous one. Along with the assessment on the children’s skills, the teachers provide goals for the children to work towards during the coming weeks. Many of our pre-k parents find the parent reports helpful in deciding on their child’s readiness for kindergarten. If you would like to schedule a parent/teacher conference after reviewing your child’s parent report, we are more than happy to schedule one for you.
Please be sure you are using your PIN and the iPad at the front desk to sign your child in and out each day. Each parent and anyone who picks up on a regular basis should have their own PIN to use to sign in/sign out. If you don’t have a PIN, please stop by the front desk so we can get one set up for you. When signing in and out, you should sign in before taking your child to the classroom and sign out after you have your child. The Daily Report is generated and emailed when a child is checked out. Waiting to sign your child out until after you have left the room provides a little time for the teacher to add any last minute information to the Daily Report. Thank you for your help with this.
Even though it is still winter, we have planning for summer camp on our “to do” list. As we get more information together, we will share all of it with you. Please be on the lookout for information as it becomes available.
Have a great month! Shawna

For Parents and Teachers
The classrooms will have Valentine’s Day parties on Friday, February 14th at 3:00. The teachers will have signup sheets posted on the classroom doors so parents can volunteer to help with the parties by bringing treats, paper products, juice or acting as a room parent. If you aren’t sure what the classroom needs for their party, please be sure to check with the teacher. The children are welcome to bring in valentines to give to their friends. You can either do the valentines without addressing the card to a specific child or you can ask the teacher for a list of friends’ names so you can address the cards.
Our spring picture days are scheduled for February 19 & 20. We will have two photographers set up on each day. The photographers will begin about 7:00 and will wrap up around 11:30. Individual, sibling, class and graduate pictures will be taken. We will do infant, toddler and beginner children pictures on Wednesday the 19th and intermediate, pre-k and graduate pictures on Thursday the 20th. Sibling pictures that include an infant, toddler or beginner child will be done on Wednesday along with the older child’s individual picture. We will send flyers home the week before picture day for you to return with your choice of backgrounds. Please watch your child’s cubby for the flyer and return by picture day.

Year-end statements for 2019 are now available. We can print your statement or email it to you, and it is also available on the parent portal. When requesting your statement be printed or emailed, please give us some notice before you actually need it. We have pretty quick turn around on the statements, but it is much easier to go into the program and print a few at once rather than keep going in and out of the program. As much notice as you can give us is greatly appreciated!
The weather so far this winter has been far from the typical weather we see this time of year. The teachers do monitor the weather, and if it allows, take the children out for short periods to play. Getting to go outside during the winter is good for the children physically and emotionally; they are able to get their wiggles out so they ae better able to focus in the classroom. Please be sure your child is dressed for outside play or is prepared for the possibility of outside play. A spare pair of gloves/mittens and hat can be left in your child’s cubby so they are prepared even if things are left in the car.
Reminders
- 2019 statements are available for tax purposes. Please let us know if you need yours.
- Please make sure your child has a complete change of clothes in his/her cubby. We never know when an accident or spill may happen.
- Weather related snow closings will be announced on WJBC 1230am, WBWN104.5fm and WBNQ101.5fm radio stations and their websites. The decision to close the school will be made by 6:00a.m.
- With the onset of cold and flu season, please be sure you are encouraging your child to cover their coughs and sneezes. We also ask that you remind your child or help your child wash hands on arrival in the classroom.
- Remember you can earn free tuition by being a school ambassador and recommending the school to friends and family. Stop by the office to learn more.

Dr. Seuss’ birthday is March 2nd, and we are going to celebrate! The children will do special activities in honor of Dr. Seuss, and we will provide a special snack. Unit 5 has scheduled kindergarten registration for children attending the 2020-2021 school year for March 10th. Parents will need to contact their child’s attendance school to schedule an appointment. District 87 elementary schools have not posted their registration days on their websites yet; they usually hold their registrations early in April. Both school districts do ask that the children accompany their parents during the registration appointment.
Chesterbrook Academy will hold our Early Bird Registration for the 2020-2021 school year March 9-21. Parents are able to secure their child’s spot for next school year and save 50% off the regular cost of registration. Registration fees during March 9-21 will be $40 for the first child in a family $30 for each additional child. Registration fees are charged to each child each year to secure their spot for the coming year. Take advantage of the savings and secure your child’s spot at the same time.
