Classroom Notes

AUGUST

We had a wonderful and fun week.  Our students enjoyed listening to the story, Pirates go to School.  We dressed up like pirates.

We read Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom! We did our 1st STEM project. We formed groups to learn how to work together to make a coconut tree and to see how many coconuts our tree can hold.

We had a blast learning our routines, rules, and procedures to start our successful school year.  The best part was getting to know the students and the students having fun learning about each other and making new friends.

SEPTEMBER

We have had a wonderful time learning about numbers 1 -19.  We write, recognize, count, and use many materials to help us understand numbers.  We started reading groups, we are learning many strategies to help with comprehension and decode unknown words.  We are learning sight words, rhyming words, syllables, and writing sentences.  We read many stories to identify ordinal numbers and using them to help sequence stories. In STEM, we learned about weather.  We are able to identify different types of weather, what to wear in different weather and temperatures.  We picked a different city and compare the weather to our city to help us identify that weather is not always the same.  We also learned ways to prepare for hazardous weather.   We had a great time learning about Johnny Appleseed, the life cycle of an apple, the parts of an apple, and different foods made from apples.  We cut up apples and made applesauce.  We tried apple pancakes and apple pie!!!  We had a very YUMMY September.

OCTOBER

We had such an exciting month of learning.  We have been practicing our letter sounds and letter formation.  We are writing sentences with beginning and ending sounds.  We have read many books about Bats, Spiders, Nature, and Pumpkins.  We learned about nouns and adjectives.  We are so excited to add details to our writing.  We learned how to add numbers using many different strategies, such as, ten frames, drawings, objects, and number lines.  We also classified and categorized objects. In STEM, we researched different animal habitats. Used Keynote, to make presentations about animal habitats.  We drew, animate, imported pictures to our drawings, and shared it with the class.
