About the Teacher

My name is Amy Carrasquillo and I am so pleased to be your child’s teacher! I have been with Chesterbrook since 2011, where I have taught Kindergarten, Paladin Clinics, and Academic Camp. I am beyond thrilled to be teaching Second grade again this year!

When I am not teaching, I love to spend time outdoors, attend concerts, and spend time with my dog Lyla.

Relationships with my students and their families are so important to me. I am looking forward to partnering with you this year to make it a successful and positive year for your child.

What to Expect in Second Grade

Second grade is all about building upon the foundational skills laid in first grade, to develop a deeper understanding of concepts.

In Second grade your child will be…

  • In Writer’s Workshop your child will be using the writing process to plan, draft, revise, edit, and publish writing in a variety of genres.
  • In Daily 5 your child will be practicing essential skills such as spelling, phonics, vocabulary, writing, fluency, reading comprehension, and reading stamina through hands-on and engaging centers.
  • In Guided Reading your child will be working in small groups to target instruction on important skills and areas of improvement.
  • In Math your child will be learning fundamental concepts, strategies, problem solving, and critical thinking through a rigorous curriculum combined with hands-on learning and targeted instruction.
  • In Science your child will be exploring concepts of Earth, Life, and Physical Science through project based learning and engaging field trips.
  • In Social Studies¬†your child will learn about civic, economic, geographic, and historical concepts through an integrated subject and project based learning approach.

We have a lot of great things in store for Second grade this year! Our Save the Bees Project Based Learning Unit, Entrepreneur Day, integrated novel studies, and field trip to Old Salem to learn about our history are just a few of the exciting learning opportunities to look forward to.
