My name is Mrs. Johnson and I’m from Birmingham, AL. Currently, I hold a Masters Degree in Public Administration and a B.S Degree in Criminal Justice. I am currently working on my Education License and I have completed my first year of my Masters of Social Work program. I have 5 years experience teaching from Pre-K to Middle School. I am married to the most wonderful husband you could ask for and we have 2 girls and 1 on the way. I enjoy spending time with my family. I enjoy shopping, eating, taking our boat out, traveling, and trying new things with my family. I’m excited to be at Chesterbrook Academy this year. I enjoy working with students and watching them grow academically and socially.
I believe in developing the whole child. We focus on respect, social emotional learning, and preparing each child for the future. I believe that Kindergarten is the foundation and it sets the tone for their education journey.
Our Daily routine starts out with morning work (Entrance Ticket). Morning work consists of writing sentences, math problems, or anything we learned the day before. Once everyone arrives at 8:30am we start our morning meeting. During morning meeting, we discuss the weather, calendar, Cheetah Fierce Character Trait, and positive affirmations. Each day a new student leads our morning meeting. After Morning meeting we break off into small groups.
During small groups we usually do independent reading or mini lessons. After small groups the students go to specials for 50 mins. Specials includes: Technology, Spanish, Art, Music, and PE. The students have snack after specials and then we break off into our core subjects, ELA, MATH, SS, and/or Science. The last hour of the day we focus on Social Emotional Learning and Project Based Learning (PBL). PBL is a hands-on activity that creates critical thinking skills. Each project takes about 4-6 weeks long to complete.
