Black History Month, celebrated annually during February in the United States and Canada, is a month to recognize, celebrate, and remember the achievements, culture, and history of BlPOC communities. This month is also a meaningful opportunity for parents, educators, and other caregivers to introduce stories, conversations, and experiences that celebrate Black voices, culture, and contributions with our little learners.
In our classrooms, teachers will thoughtfully acknowledge Black History Month through books, music, and conversations that support inclusion and belonging. We also recognize that learning continues far beyond the school day. The ideas and resources below are intended to support families who would like to continue these conversations and explorations at home in ways that fit your family’s values, routines, and comfort level.
