Dear Chesterbrook Families,
Well, it looks like we will kick off our month to see what Puxatawny Phil will predict for the rest of our winter! As a reminder, we broadcast our school delay and closing information on channel 6 ABC. Parents are able to sign-up for text messaging and email alerts through www.6ABC.com when our school reports a delay or closing. We will also do our best to send out an e-notify to all of our families, and add a message to our school website homepage, if we have power and technology capabilities. In the event of an Early Dismissal during our hours of operation, we will utilize these resources in addition to contacting parents of children in our care at that time. We pride ourselves of doing our best to serve our families and maintain our regular school operations, however there are times when we must open late, dismiss early, or close due to extreme weather conditions and/or school conditions. Thank you to all of our families and staff for their understanding and cooperation throughout this winter. Your safety and that of your children and our staff is important to us.
Despite the recent wintry weather keeping us indoors, we will be busy throughout the month celebrating the Chinese New Year, 100th Day of School, and Valentine’s Day. More importantly we will be covering topics related to Heart Health Awareness and Dental Health, and the teachers will be incorporating some fun activities for our students on these topics. The Kindergarten class is planning their Heart Healthy Valentine celebration with healthy snacks and portions using the My Plate recommendations. We have also scheduled dental health visitors to come in and speak to the children about proper dental care. And, special thanks to Segal Puppets for coming out to perform their Tooth Buddies show and Highpoint Pediatric Dental Associates for sponsoring the event for our school.
We will also be conducting our next Open House and Kindergarten Parent Workshop for parents of children who will become Kindergarten-age eligible for the upcoming school years. The Parent Workshop will take place on Saturday, March 12tht from 10:30am-12:00pm. Please RSVP to Melissa or I, and feel free to share with interested families who may be looking for a Kindergarten or preschool program. Kindergarten Priority Registration information is available too! And, stay tuned for Early Bird Registration in the weeks ahead for all families.
We are also making preparations now for Summer Camp! It’s not too early to reserve your space for our summer program! More details will be coming home with Early Bird Registration in the upcoming weeks. As a reminder, we do offer a Parent Referral discount for referring families. Please inquire for further details. Many thanks to all of our families that have and continue to refer their friends and families to us for the early childhood education and care needs. You are an invaluable lifeline to our school and we greatly appreciate your commendations!
In conjunction with our Progress Reports, our PreK and PreK 2 families will be receiving an additional parent communication tool in preparation for their child’s progression into Kindergarten. In February and June, parents will receive a detailed progress report of their child’s skill development in the form of our Links to Learning Parent Report. Accompanying the June Parent Report will also be the PLG document. (Personal Learning Goals) The PLG will provide you with what we see as the next steps in your child’s academic journey and can act as a guide to help you select the most appropriate kindergarten program for your child. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me or your child’s teacher. We are excited to continue to work closely with you as we customize and enhance your child’s Pre-K experience at our school.
Over the next several months, we will be focusing our efforts on our Middle States Re-accreditation visit that will take place in April. This is school-wide community effort and we will be asking our families to help support us as direct stakeholders in our school community as part of our self-study and improvement process. Stay tuned for further details to be shared in the upcoming weeks and months ahead. We appreciate and value your input and involvement so that we may continue to serve our students, families, and staff better.
Please note that our Re-accreditation visit is scheduled for the week of April 25th. The Accreditation Team will likely arrive on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 26th and we are planning to host a casual reception upon their arrival. The team will then visit our classrooms and teachers, as well as parents over the course of Wednesday and Thursday. Finally on Friday, they will provide us with their commendations and recommendations for continued school improvement before their departure. We encourage our families to participate and share the experience with us.
As our annual licensing inspection approaches, we will be circling around with families for any outstanding paperwork that may need to be updated. Please check your child’s mailbox daily for communications and paperwork being sent home. It is imperative that we maintain our records to ensure we not only meet but exceed the state requirements. Thank you to all of our families for their cooperation!
Please be sure to mark your calendars now, for our next Teacher Inservice Day on President’s Day, Monday, February 15th.
Thank you to all of our families for taking a few minutes out of your already busy days to complete our recent Parent Survey. The information collected will help us to better meet the needs of all of our families, and we appreciate you taking the time to respond. And, last but certainly not least, a very warm welcome to all of our new families that have joined us over the past few weeks!
Here’s to your health and warmer months ahead!
